Who we are?
The Kilimanjaro Animal C.R.E.W. (Center for Rescue, Education and Wildlife) is located on Makoa-Farm, on the southern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. A large part of Makoa has always been about healthy, injured and orphaned animals – the farm is the safe haven for a wide variety of species.
Since 2013, when we were able to convince the then Minister of Support to our project for education in wildlife and conservation, the work at our “animal sanctuary” and our Bush School, where the youth can learn understanding and responsibility for their nature, has definitely increased.
Considering the disastrous situation of poaching in this country, be it for rhino horn, ivory or “just” bushmeat, the need for education in wildlife, nature and conservation is becoming more and more evident.
In Germany we are registered as a non-profit association and in Tanzania also as a non-governmental organisation, under the name “Kilimanjaro Animal C.R.E.W.” (Centre for Rescue, Education and Wildlife).
Our mission is, with the help of our animal sanctuary, to offer children and young people the opportunity to maintain and deepen their enthusiasm and knowledge about their incredible wildlife, and at the same time to improve the living conditions of these children AND the wildlife.
